Digital Art & NFTs

Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are a form of digital art which are unique, cannot be replaced and are easily traced. If you own an NFT, it is like owning the 'actual' piece of digital art, rather than right-clicking and saving it to your computer (like owning the 'actual' Mona Lisa rather than a poster copy).

They are kept on a 'decentralised' blockchain, so every transaction is transparent to all. In some ways their sales, ownership and transactions are like Bitcoin, but imagine you have unique artwork in your cryptowallet, rather than an exchangeable identical coin token.

Looking at the history of art and how 'street art' was disregarded in the '90s and then later embraced as a mainstream form of expression, I am thrilled to see how this form of art is developing and has formed its own subculture and language, especially around very simple pixelated forms reminiscent of the video games I played growing up.

When Sotheby's continues to sell NFTs for millions, and the digital art movement is expected to surpass real-life art sales in the near future, I started to take notice and I am proud to report I am one of the first NFT artists (there are between 3500 and 800,000 artists on Opensea.io (the NFT E-bay) and one of very few female NFT artists (only 15% of us are women - that makes me only one of about 500 to120,000 people IN THE WORLD!). If art is judged by rarity, then my art is like hen's teeth!

So why should you care about NFTs? It is a way to show support for a brand or an artist, to join a community, to collect, to sell, to make a profit by reselling your NFT for a higher price. It might be a way of owning a piece of internet history. Business Insider reports the NFT market was $41 billion in 2021  vs the conventional art market of $50 billion the year before...so my NFTs are an up-and-coming digital asset...and you should watch this space!

Links to my NFT projects are here and they will also be advertised on my Instagram, Facebook and Twitter accounts. I will be organising some online tutorials soon for those who want to know more about how to set up their crypto-wallets, join Opensea or even create their own NFTs soon.

If you would like to know more about any of this, please do not hesitate to contact me.
